Color and Light Chapter 9

Surfaces and Effects 

- Transmitted light gives things a stained glass window effect

- Caustics is the way water reflects on things for highlights 

- Specular Reflections - object with shiny surfaces are light mirrors, reflects and image of whatever. High amounts of color variety 

- Highlights: define the planes facing the light source and show us how objects are turning in space 

- Light is being dispersed by the smoke in the atmosphere

- Color Corona - very bright light near bright sources like. It spreads out and highlights and lightens all silhouettes 

- Facial colors, yellow/green to pinkish red to blue/green

- Motion Blur: creates more movement in a composition - the whole background blurs radially from the vanishing point along the path of the movement. More extreme towards the edge of the picture. the ones perpendicular get the treatment, on the path does not. 

- Photos drain colors, so practice, color notes, varied to avoid clipping.
